Matthew O’Meagher has been the President of the LANZBC since May 2013 and a Director since November 2011. Latin America has defined his career as an international education strategist and former academic, diplomat and consultant.
As the founder of New Zealand’s first research centre for Latin American Studies, he connected the worlds of business, government and scholarship by organising conferences on opportunities for New Zealanders in that region, including a major 2005 conference sponsored by the LANZBC.
As New Zealand’s first Education Counsellor in South America he promoted New Zealand education expertise in Latin America, and supported schools, polytechnics and universities recruiting South American students.
As an International Relations manager for the University of Auckland, he raised awareness across that institution of research and recruitment opportunities.
As the Project Manager for a University Roadmap developed by Education New Zealand he charted a vision for international growth for New Zealand's universities that included Latin America as a target market.
As Principal Adviser for International Networks at Victoria University of Wellington he is leading rankings strategy, building relations with other capital city universities, and working with the Victoria Institute for Links with Latin America on institutional engagement with the Latin American region.Back
