Juan Pablo Fernandez
Auckland University of Technology (AUT)
Juan Pablo joined the LANZBC Board in September 2022. Originally from Mexico City, Juan Pablo Fernandez moved to Auckland in 2006 to complete his university education centred on international business.
Over the past 9 years, Juan Pablo has worked in the tertiary education sector at Auckland University of Technology. During his time at AUT, he has enjoyed working in varied roles including teaching and research (Faculty of Business, Economics and Law), Marketing and Recruitment (Brand and Marketing Services Division) but has primarily focused on International Recruitment and Relations while working within AUT’s International Strategy and Operations Division -AUT International-.
In his current role as International Regional Manager, Juan Pablo supports all aspects of the delivery of AUT’s international strategy, with emphasis on student recruitment, business development and relationship marketing, to meet international recruitment targets and raise the University’s profile within the key strategic markets.
Before working in tertiary education, Juan Pablo worked in the private sector as an entrepreneur in Mexico as well as in range of relationship marketing and business development roles in New Zealand. These experiences made him aware of his passion for people, networking, international relations and trade.
In 2018, Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs ratified Juan Pablo’s appointment as President of the Red Global MX (Global Network MX) in New Zealand. As the network’s President (2018-2022) and in representation of the community of Mexican professionals in New Zealand, he often liaised with the Mexican Ambassador and Consul General to New Zealand, and other Mexican government agencies dedicated to international trade, education, and scientific research.
Having completed a Master of Business with Honours (First-Class) at AUT in 2014, Juan Pablo’s next long-term ‘academic’ goal is to undertake Doctoral studies on International Business with a focus on Latin America and New Zealand issues.
