Exciting times for New Zealand and Latin American Agribusiness
Thu, 13 Jun, 2019 4:30 PM — 6:00 PM
Fieldays International Business Centre, Fieldays, Mystery Creek, Hamilton
An uncharacteristically warm and sunny afternoon at Fieldays 2019 saw a fantastic turnout for the LANZBC and NZTE’s Latin America networking event on 13 June. Around 60 guests enjoyed canapes and refreshments in the newly located Fieldays International Business Centre, including His Excellency Fausto Lopez Crozet, the Argentinean Ambassador, Sir William Gallagher and MPs Nathan Guy and Todd Muller.
Simon O’Connor, President of the LANZBC welcomed guests from Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia, commenting on the growing level of interest in Latin America in the Agritech sector and the increasing opportunities available in the region.
Brendan Mahar, Latin America Market Manager for NZTE and member of the LANZBC Board, noted that 30-40% of the portfolio of companies NZTE works with are in the Agribusiness sector, with companies not just involved in pasture-based dairy, but agriculture, viticulture, processing and packaging and services. Brendan also commented that it was an exciting time for NZ and Latin America relations with FTAs under the CPTPP - already in force with Mexico and expected to come into force with Peru and Chile – creating a stable rules-based platform and allowing New Zealand companies to trade in those markets with greater confidence.
Brendan noted the wealth of knowledge and experience in the room and reminded those in attendance of the importance of people to people connections, encouraging all to use the evening to circulate and create new business connections.
The LANZBC sincerely thanks NZTE for partnering with the Council for another successful event, with particular thanks to the NZTE Waikato and Event Programming teams for their seamless coordination of logistics.
