Her Excellency Dianela Pi

Republic of Uruguay

Dianela Pi is the Ambassador of Uruguay to the Commonwealth of Australia with
concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to New Zealand and Fiji. Her credentials  were presented on April 6th, 2022.


Mrs. Pi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay in 2000 through public
competitive and merit examinations passed in 1999. At the headquarters, she
worked at the General Direction for Integration and MERCOSUR Affairs being in
charge of issues related to the main MERCOSUR governing bodies, particularly with
regard to custom matters and trade facilitation, electronic commerce and public
procurements. She was also Deputy Human Rights Director of the General
Direction for Political Affairs from 2010-2012, and after returning from Geneva, she
was designated Deputy Sub-General Director for Political Affairs and Director for
Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law from 2017 – 2020.


Abroad, from 2004-2010, she was posted to New York as member of the
Uruguayan Mission to the United Nations, responsible for the Third Committee -
Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Issues - and related subjects. She was the
GRULAC coordinator and facilitator of the UN Resolution on the Rights of the Child
on behalf of GRULAC and the EU. From 2012-2017 she was posted to Geneva as
member of the Uruguayan Mission to the United Nations. She was responsible for
the human rights team and became the Deputy Permanente Representative in
February 2015.


Mrs. Dianela Pi is married to Mr. Paolo Pedrazzi and they have two children: Luca
and Lucía.
